The recording brief
What to say
- Aim for approximately three to five minutes.
- Begin by naming the hero.
- Engage directly with the approved quotation or value.
- Connect the hero’s legacy to a Jewish source, idea, or lived teaching when appropriate.
- Offer one clear challenge or practical takeaway.
- Use only the approved biographical facts on this page.
- Please do not speculate about the hero or the circumstances of their death.
How to record
- Record in landscape orientation at 1080p where possible.
- Face a window or soft light.
- Record in a quiet room.
- Look into the camera.
- Avoid music unless explicitly approved.
- Leave a brief pause at the beginning and end for editing.
Common questions
What equipment do I need?
A recent phone is more than enough. Prop it horizontally at eye level (a shelf and a few books work well), face a window, and record in a quiet room. A laptop webcam also works.
How long should my reflection be?
Three to five minutes. Shorter and heartfelt is better than long and comprehensive — one idea, taken seriously.
What file formats can I upload?
MP4, MOV, or M4V — which is what phones and computers produce by default. If your file is something else, contact us and we will help.
My upload failed or my internet is slow. What now?
The upload can simply be started again — nothing is lost. If it keeps failing, try a Wi-Fi connection, or contact us and we will arrange another way to receive your file.
Can I re-record after uploading?
Yes. Upload as many versions as you like — earlier versions are always kept, and you choose which version to submit.
What happens after I submit?
Our editors review every reflection before publication. If anything needs adjusting they will leave you a short note in the portal, and you can upload a new version.
May I mention details about the hero that I know personally?
Please use only the approved material on your assignment page. Families have approved that text; additions — even loving ones — need to go through the editorial team first.
